Meet Mariana Pacheco

Mariana Pacheco is the current Vice President of the board of Trustees at Cerritos College. Mariana Pacheco has been a registered nurse for over 40 years and the Director of Nursing for Downey Unified School District for over a decade. During her time at DUSD, she has worked with hundreds of students to help develop them into caring professionals who care for our loved ones when they're sick, while giving back to the community. She has coordinated student participation in health fairs, first-aid stations, and disaster training.

Mariana Pacheco worked for LAC+USC for 34 years as a Registered Nurse and was the Clinical Director of the Outpatient Department and Employee Health Services. She has her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing and her Master’s Degree in Nursing Administration from Cal State Los Angeles.

Mariana Pacheco has been involved in the community and has volunteered on numerous projects. She is the past president of the Kiwanis Club of Downey and has worked with the youth on various community service projects. Mariana Pacheco has helped the youth develop their leadership skills by taking students to leadership camp. She has been involved in the Kiwanis Club of Downey in providing scholarships to students so that they can continue their educational careers. She is also a member of the Elks Club in Downey.

Mariana Pacheco’s Platform

As a board of trustee at Cerritos College Mariana Pacheco has worked to ensure that the programs not only help individuals start their careers, but also that a strong professional foundation is built.

Mariana Pacheco is committed to the students and to the staff at Cerritos College. She listens to their concerns and promises to continue advocating on their behalf.

Accomplishments while on the board

  • First community College to have a Housing Project for insecure students
  • Equity Champion for transfer degrees awarded to Latinx students
  • Opened the Falcon’s Nest, centralizing support resources to meet students’ basic needs
  • First bachelor’s degree approved for Dental Hygiene
  • Developed the Students First Framework
  • New Performing Arts Center
  • Each year there has been an increase in the graduation rate and this year we had a Record-breaking graduation of more than 8,000 students
  • Ranked among the nation’s top community colleges
  • Dual Enrollment Program, allowing high students to earn college credits when in high school
